Take a look at your home. Is it everything you thought it could be, or could it use a little bit more? Whether you want a fresh look for an increased curb appeal, or simply want a low-maintenance way to protect your home, having siding expertly installed on your house is a fantastic choice.
At American Construction, we realize that every project, and every home, has its own unique challenges, and each customer has their own personal needs and desires. That’s why we start every siding project by listening to you. What do you hope to gain from installing your new siding? What new look are you searching for? After having a conversation with you, and truly getting to know what you want, we will design a siding project that is a perfect fit for your needs and your budget.
And if you’re not sure which siding is the right choice for your home, we can certainly help there as well. There are many different choices on the market today, each with their own advantages and disadvantages:
Vinyl Siding – Great color choices and easy maintenance once installed. Just wash with a hose a few times a year to keep it looking great!
Properly installed, vinyl sidings are virtually maintenance free because of its polyvinyl chloride (PVC) construction, making it one of the least expensive sidings out there. The multitude of designs available on the market also means you have a wide variety of looks to choose from for your home. In terms of functionality; vinyl sidings won’t come short since they are pest and water resistance. And with a service life of up to 40 years, they can be a great feature for your home.
That is, if they are properly installed. Cheap, low quality vinyl pose the risk of releasing harmful toxins at high temperatures. Also, gaps left between the siding and the wall due to shoddy work can hide moisture and structural problems which can worsen in time. The space also becomes a weak spot that can be punctured, bent, or cracked.
Cedar Siding – A great choice for an elegant look
A wooden siding just gives a natural, rustic air to any home. This is especially true when it comes to cedar, since it ages beautifully over time: which can reach up to 70 years or more. And because it is an all-natural product, cedar sidings are environmentally friendly: coming from a fairly sustainable resource and easily recycled and remade into other products.
However, if your siding contractor used inferior, untreated wood sidings, they can pose as a fire hazard. Untreated wood sidings are also vulnerable to pests, rot, and water damage. And considering that wood and cedar sidings cost more than average, it can’t be left at the hands of an inadequate and unskilled contractor or carpenter.
Aluminum siding – A durable standby that’s tough and timeless
The fact that is metal gives aluminum sidings unique advantages over other siding options. They can fend off most pests and vermin from getting into the wall. In terms of the environment, almost all aluminum sidings in the market are recycled, which gives the added bonus of making them cheaper than other siding materials. Another plus is that aluminum’s insulative properties helps in regulating your indoor temperature, reducing your home heating bill. And because aluminum is waterproof and doesn’t rust, it is a great, low maintenance feature to your home, and can even protect it if you live near large bodies of water.
The downside to aluminum siding is that it can get noisy at times when struck. Its relative softness makes it easy to dent, even puncture. When that happens, you’ll need a professional to buff out the ding, the same way you’d do with your car. All of these are especially true if your aluminum siding was improperly set up.
Hardieboard Siding – Also known as cement board siding, this choice allows for a multitude of different looks, and is fire resistant.
Made from a mixture of concrete and plant fiber, Hardieboard sidings have the appearance of solid concrete, brick, or even stone. That being said, you can still opt to have them look different by choosing pre-painted panels or having them painted over on site. They are also resistant to pests, fire, water, and extreme weather. And with a lifespan of 50 years, Hardieboard sidings are a great investment for your home.
When it comes to costs, however, Hardieboard can be quite expensive. Their 3 lbs/square foot means that you need to hire more manpower to install it. This makes mistakes from inept contractors all the more costly.
